The short answer to this question is No, scrapple is not good for diabetics because like deli meat scrapple contains excess sodium, additives and saturated fats which raises blood cholesterol level especially for type II diabetics.

But that’s not all.

Commercially prepared scrapples are usually mixed with cornstarch as a binder which can quickly raise blood sugar level. 

Here’s what’s important for any diabetic.

Excess Saturated fat increases risk of:

  • Inflammation. 
  • Heart disease. 
  • And promotes insulin resistance.

Wait there’s more. 

Excess sodium content in scrapple also increases risk of diabetes complications:high blood pressure, stroke and hypertension.

The short answer to this question is Yes, scrapple is high in fats, a 2-oz potion of scrapple contains between 7.8 to 8.2 g of fats.However this varies depending on the type of oil used in frying scrapple.

Scrapple cooked with oils that has large 

  • Large amount of saturated omega 6 fatty acid

The short answer to this question is No, scrapple is not good for heart health or patients with heart condition because it contains high amounts of sodium, saturated fat and cholesterol which are not heart healthy.

The short answer to this question is Yes, scrapples are keto friendly because they contain 3.5 g of carbs. 

However the presence of high amounts of sodium cholesterol and unsaturated fats makes it unsuitable for ketosis. 

Here’s my 0.5 cents advice for anyone on a ketogenic diet. 

Scrapple should be substituted with skinless chicken or chicken breast. 

Here’s why.

They contain just as much protein as pork trimming or rinds, but that’s not all.

It’s a perfect replacement for keto chips with lots of sugar, artificial sweeteners and preservatives.

The short answer to this question is Yes, scrapple is bad for cholesterol because  49 mg of cholesterol per 100g.

If you’re a type II Diabetes or on a low-cholesterol diet, 

Here’s precautions to use as a diabetic. 

  • Avoid eating large portions of scrapple. 
  • Try lean animal protein sources.
  • Use low carb flour to mix the meat instead of fillers. 

Generally if you’re on a low sodium low cholesterol diet scrapple is not a healthy meal.

Rather go for lean meat protein like turkey and chicken breast

Scrapple vs haggis

The main difference between scrapple and haggis is that scrapple is made of pork bits-heart, liver, and other trimmings mixed with cornmeal and flour, boiled and molded into a loaf, whereas Haggis is made from minced offal and oatmeal etc and served incase in sheep stomach.

But there’s more. 

Scrapple is a Pennsylvania dish whereas haggis is a Scottish traditional dish that looks like Pennsylvania Scrapple.

Haggis has a texture similar to scrapple, and was originally made by early German settlers in America.

Scrapple vs spam

The main difference between scrapple and spam is that scrapple uses offal- (liver kidney and heart of the pig) bulk with cornstarch and buckwheat flour and seasoned with garlic onions, other and a dried spice. Whereas spam is made from Pork and other meats, bulk with potato starch and salty without other seasoning

But that’s not all.

Spam is usually canned and cooked while scarpples is cooked for an hour and allowed to cool in loaves.

Here’s what is important if you’re a diabetic.

This meat contains Lots of saturated fats and cholesterol.

But that’s not all.

The sodium content used in preserving these meats can have side effects for diabetics or anyone with high blood pressure. 

Also cornstarch and potato starch added to these products increase the carb content and can spike blood sugar level. 

Scrapple vs sausage

The main difference between scrapple and sausage is that scrapple contains trimming and meat scraps that are not commonly used in sausage and are usually served in loaves, whereas sausage usually consist of organ meats, which are grounded, seasoned and combined with fillers, and usually served in casings.

These meats contain excess amounts of sodium, unhealthy fats and fillers

Meat that contains an excess amount of fats and cholesterol usually.

  • Increase risk of insulin resistance 

but that’s not all.

Also soy products should be avoided if possible.
